Windows XP
- click on Start
- Select "Control Panel"
- Click "Network Connections"
- Select your internet connection . (commonly the one labeled Local Area Connection or Wireless Connection)
- Click "Properties" button.
- Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties."
- Click the radio button "Use the following DNS server addresses" and type in Safe From Sites DNS addresses in the "Preferred DNS server" and "Alternate DNS server" fields.
1. Click on Control Panel in the Start menu.

2. Click on Network Connections .

or

3. Right click your Internet connection from the Network Connections and select properties .

4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

5. Click the radio button Use the following DNS server addresses
and type in
Safe From Sites DNS addresses in the Preferred DNS server
and Alternate DNS server fields, then click OK.
Please write down your current DNS settings before switching to Safe From Sites DNS, in case you want to return to your previous settings .
Preferred and Alternate DNS server addresses are in the "Welcome E-mail":

Visit http://test.SafeFromSites.com/ to test your new settings.
You should see the Blocked page from Safe From Sites DNS.
Windows XP quirks and fixes:
Problem - DNS cache tends to update slowly, this causes updates to blocked and unblocked sites to be delayed in effect on you computer.
fix- Set the registry to not cache DNS entries, ( http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/tune-24.html ) or
fix - save this file , unzip and double click it to auto correct this flaw in the registry.
Problem - Internet Explorer will hold a blocked site even though it is no longer blocked, even after the reg fix mentioned above.
fix - set internet explorers cache to 0 megs
fix - use Fire Fox
Note - These problems do not exist in Windows Vista.
